Since amiibo were first released by Nintendo back in November 2014 for Smash Bros. for Wii U, they've shipped 10.5 million units worldwide. North America had seven million amiibos shipped. Europe had the second highest amount of amiibos shipped (around 2 million), followed by Japan and Australia.
Over time people have purchased amiibo for collection and recreational purposes. A few amiibo, like the Villager, are now considered rare due to the demand for them and how few are available.
