After 42 years of existing as a form of electronic entertainment, a vast collection of video games will now be on display in Texas as part of the nation’s first museum entirely devoted to video games.
Frisco’s Community Development Corp. voted unanimously on Thursday to devote $1 million to hosting the National Video Game Museum.
“We’ll make sure every visitor that comes in has a great experience and learns all about video games past, present and future,” National Video Game Museum director of development Una McKeen said before the vote.
Organisationen vil vise så meget af deres samling, i alt over 10.000 stykker, inden for en 10.400 kvadratmeter plads.
Deres første museum, kaldet "The National Video Game Museum 1.0," vil dele det by ejede Frisco Discovery Center med fire andre attraktioner.
Til sidst vil der som led i aftalen blive lanceret en kapitalkampagne for at skabe et større stand-alone anlæg til museet kaldet "2.0". Denne version skal også være placeret i Frisco, en by i Dallas-Fort Worth metroplexen .
Udover at vise originale videospil, konsoller og andre memorabilia har organisationen planer om at indarbejde spiludvikling og musik som en del af oplevelsen.
Før aftalen blev National Video Game Museum en non-profit organisation uden nogen fysisk placering for at vise deres genstande. Hvis deres samling blev set af offentligheden, blev deres artefakter udstillet på expos.
"Vi er glade for endelig at få et hjem," sagde museumsforstifter Sean Kelly.
Konstruktion af National Video Game Museum 1.0 er indstillet til at begynde januar 2015, med en foreløbig færdiggørelsesdato april 2015.
